Cliff Lee and Phillies Nearly Suffocate Yankees in Game 1 of the Series

In impressive style, and with what seemed little effort, Cliff Lee nearly cut off all hope for Derek Jeter and friends in the first game of the 2009 World Series. Inning after inning, with what seemed constant sprinkling from the weather the Phillies held up strong and proud in the Yankees’ territory. With a final score of 6-1, Phillies fans have a real reason to be hopeful in the 2009 post season.¬†For the last six World Series, the team that won Game 1 always went on to win the series.

Lee’s pitching wasn’t the only star of this Phillies victory, Chase Utley also hit two solo home-runs putting the Phillies on the board and keeping them in the lead.

As a 3rd generation Phillies fan, I have high hopes and would love to see them go all the way!
